Hey, Royalty Artists!!!!

From the American Federation of Musicians

The list of services provided to our recording musicians is quite extensive.  (e.g. Pension benefits, New-use recordings payments, extra royalties, lobbying legislators, etc.)  These services are available to all of our studio, back-up and royalty musicians.  Those who have taken advantage of these services have done very well, while others who have not, including many royalty musicians, have short-changed themselves.  Ironically, some of these musicians have suggested a need to create a special “royalty artist” organization to provide some of these same services.

I find that royalty artists can be divided into three distinct groups: Those who have never heard of the AFM; those who have heard of the AFM but never took the time to learn what we do; and those who use our services to the full extent possible.  The last group also make a significant contribution to the design, creation and updating of our services.

This brings me to my request.  I am conducting research to improve AFM services for our royalty artists, and need your input.   Some examples of what I am looking to develop include separating AFM session fees from the so-called “front money” to make sure you actually receive it, a service to review and translate your royalty artist contract for you, and increased input from our royalty artists in addressing legislative issues

Part of taking advantage of your AFM services include providing your input as to your concerns, needs, and what we might be able to further develop on your behalf.  Peer input has worked well for our studio musicians, and it will work for you.

Tell us who you are, where you are from and send your input to royalty@afm.org.  I look forward to hearing from you.
