GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING, Friday, 22September, 2000 at 1:00pm Sheet Metal Worker's Local 32, North Miami FL Meeting called to order at 1:18 p.m. President Graves, Vice President Fox, Treasurer Apana, Board Members Ballard and Barnes, and 30 members (a quorum) were in attendance. Reading of Minutes; MSC to approve as read. Treasurer's Report: Report on Millennium Membership Drive success. Report of financial status of Local and additional unanticipated negotiation and grievance expenses. Board is currently working on long-range plan to build cash reserves. Vice President's Report: Many more jobs are having contracts filed and the department is growing considerably. President's Report: Report of FPO negotiations and strike vote. Report of contracts filed by FGO. Report of ongoing SFX negotiation. Report of resolution of Atlanta Ballet strike. Committee Reports: Bylaw Committee Report read. Report of committee on alternatives to life insurance; the Local's options are to continue the life insurance benefit, to cancel the life insurance benefit, or to self-fund a transition-period benefit for a limited time. Old Business: Resolution to eliminate Life Insurance benefit; MSC to table until next meeting so that a self-funding plan can be drawn up and policies through alternative carriers can be considered. Resolution to amend the number of signatures required to submit a petition to amend the bylaws; motion to amend the amendment by changing number of signatures from 5 to 15 (failed); main motion failed by a show of hands. Resolution to amend requirements for Life Membership; MSC. New Business: Discussion led by Ed Calle and Kurt Hagen that Local should be accountable to all members and that Dues money should be equitably used to support Recording and Casual projects as well as Symphonic projects; the Local is currently spending a disproportionate sum on Symphonic legal expenses. Discussion led by Howie Schneider that the public should be educated on the benefits of live music over the use of sequencers and drum machines. Meeting adjourned at 2:35. |
