Executive Board Meeting Number 01-5, 21 May 2001

Meeting called to order at 12:50pm. Present: Graves, Fox, Apana, Ballard, Bahler, Scafati. Barnes excused due to prior commitment; Barge and Calle absent.

MSC to approve amended minutes of 4/18 meeting and new members.

VP Report: $259K in recording scale wages on contract so far in 2001. Puff Daddy, Michael Jackson, and FPO are currently engaged in recording projects. A settlement has been reached for J Carswell regarding Miami Jam.

Treasurer’s Report: presentation of activities log, expenses for prior month, membership rolls and bank balance data. Report on Per Capita Waiver status, 2000 Annual Audit, Life Insurance rates, delinquent accounts.

President’s Report: FPO is currently recording a CD and has formed a conductor search committee and Internet Committee. Chruszcz grievance has been settled. PBO Merry Widow grievance has been settled and librarian side letter is in progress. Discussion of J Martinez/SOA dispute; MSC to assist Martinez in any way possible without incurring additional expense to the Local.

Committee Reports: draft of Scale Committee report will be ready within seven days. Fox departs at 1:45.

Communications: reading of Chargois letter regarding servicing musicians other than symphonic; discussion of calls regarding SOA management meeting with union musicians to ask about problems they have and their feelings about a union contract.

Old Business: Verification of poll: MSC to authorize $10 registration fee for Luger to attend Broward Cultural Affairs Arts/Education Seminar. MSC to waive July-Dec 2001 dues for Szereto due to his house fire. MSC to deny waiver of Capote outstanding dues incurred prior to his expulsion. MSC to have PR Committee explore the possibility of a benefit concert for the Local. Scafati departs at 2:10 and Fox returns.

MSC to deny Shapiro access to membership database due to privacy issues. MSC to authorize additional $55 in FL-GA Conference expenses. MSC to amend budget by raising AFL-CIO Per Capita expense to $75 per month. MSC to authorize $450 in additional legal expenses relating to SFX lawsuit; MSC to postpone discussion of $900 in legal expenses relating to FPO lawsuit until further information can be obtained from lawyer. MSC to explore obtaining “Error and omission” insurance coverage for Local. MSC to approve “Open House” resolution as amended. Discussion of AFM Convention recommendations and resolutions.

Fox departs at 3:17 pm, at which time the quorum is lost and the meeting was adjourned.
