GENERAL RULES AND CONDITIONS

Effective September 1, 2001 – August 31, 2003

 JOB CATEGORIES

 I.          CASUAL: Miscellaneous engagements, dinner/dances, galas, concerts, shows, industrial shows, circuses, rodeos, ice shows, pageants, rock concerts, etc.

 II.          SYMPHONIC: Symphony, opera, ballet, symphonic pops, and operetta.

 III.         THEATER: Broadway type, "book" shows.

 IV.        CONDOS: Concerts & tours.

 V.         STEADY ENGAGEMENTS: 1 day per week with a 4-week minimum, or 2 or more days per week with a 2-week minimum.

 VI.        NON-COMMERCIAL: Non-commercial jazz, big band, alternative rock, bookstores, coffeehouses, etc.

VII.       MUSIC PREPARATION: Copying, transcriptions, etc.

EXCEPTIONS

Any exceptions or items not covered by this Scale Book are subject to Executive Board approval.

 START TIMES

Contractor shall state the start & finish times upon booking job.

Musicians must be ready to perform 15 minutes prior to start of engagement.

CBA SUB POLICY

In any ensemble that has a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the substitutes shall be paid at the CBA per service rate.

CONDUCTOR / LEADER / PLAYING CONTRACTOR

200% of scale wages, including rehearsals, pre-heats & overtime.

SUB-LEADER / SINGLE MUSICIAN / NON-PLAYING CONTRACTOR

150% of scale wages, including rehearsals, pre-heats & overtime.

PENSION

8% of gross scale wages, including titular pay, rehearsals, pre-heats, doubles & overtime, payable to AFM-EPF.

NEW YEARS EVE

All jobs @ 250% of scale wages.
MILEAGE FEE WITHIN TRI-COUNTY METROPOLITAN AREA

From residence to venue.

0-25 miles                   $ 0

Over 25 miles             $17

PARKING

Free or reimbursed parking to be provided to all musicians.

TRAVEL FEE OUTSIDE OF TRI-COUNTY METROPOLITAN AREA

1) Travel Fee is paid to all musicians.

2) If a musician chooses to ride with another musician, each passenger shall pay the driver of the automobile 33% of Travel Fee.


 

TRAVEL BY PUBLIC CONVEYANCE

For travel by rail, bus or boat, this rate is for time elapsed from scheduled departure time to scheduled start time of engagement.

$7 per ½ hour, per musician

 For travel by airplane, this rate is for scheduled flying time to engagement (including layovers).

$18 per ½ hour, per musician

In addition, all parking fees, up to $5 per day, reimbursed with receipt.

4) the engagement is over 250 miles from BCPA

1) All jobs are a 3-hour minimum with the following exceptions:

3) All jobs, any day, ending no later than 6pm are 2 hours minimum.

PUBLIC SERVICE SCALE ( For MPTF and other similar jobs with approval of Executive Board )

1) Use Non-Continuous Scale: only 2-hour and 3-hour allowed except Saturday nights are 4-hour

REHEARSALS

All rehearsals are 2-hour minimum.

Rehearsals on day prior to show to be paid as casual engagement.

Rehearsals immediately prior to job are considered part of and are paid at the engagement rate.

BREAKS BETWEEN REHEARSAL & ENGAGEMENT

On engagements with a pre-heat, no more than a 2 ½-hour break permitted.

On engagements without a pre-heat, no more than a 2-hour break permitted.

Any additional break time to be paid at rehearsal scale wage.

REST PERIODS

Rehearsals:

Ten (10) minutes per hour, accumulative.

Non-Continuous Engagements:

20 minutes per person, per hour, breaks may not be staggered. (Play 20 minutes, break 10 minutes is permissible)

Continuous Engagements:

Five (5) minutes per hour; breaks may be staggered; breaks accumulative only during show presentations.

Continuous Engagements with sets longer than 55 minutes:

Any one set of 1 to 1-1/2 hours gets an extra 10% of scale wages for the engagement.

Any one set of 1-1/2 to 2 hours gets an extra 30% of scale wages for the engagement.

Any one set of 2 to 2-1/2 hours gets an extra 50% of scale wages for the engagement.

Any one set of 2-1/2 to 3 hours gets an extra 75% of scale wages for the engagement.

Any engagement with a set in excess of 3-hours gets an extra 100% of scale wages.

A service in which the contractor is instructed to hold breaks until directed by the director/producer of the show shall be considered a dress rehearsal. If the contractor can call the 10-min.breaks each hour as required, it is considered a regular rehearsal.
