Biography
Charles
(Chas) Reskin has been a member of Local 655 for over 50 years. Both
his parents were musicians and life-long AFM members as well. Chas
began his musical career as a percussionist, but switched to trumpet,
graduating on that instrument from the Juilliard School of Music in
1968 with a minor in composition. Since then, he has performed in
virtually every type of musical group and genre, from symphony
orchestra to jazz band. He held the position of Principal Trumpet with
the Naples Philharmonic in the 1980s, and was later a member of the
Florida Grand Opera orchestra, the Ft. Lauderdale Symphony, the Miami
City Ballet, and the Florida Sunshine Pops, among many others. He has
toured nationally with the Broadway musical "Les Misèrables", and
internationally with KC and the Sunshine Band. He is currently a
published composer with the European publisher, Editions BIM, with 9
works in their catalog so far. Chas is a long-time practitioner of Zen
Buddhism, and enjoys all the arts, travel, fine food, and great
chocolate, of course! As a local board member he believes that even in
a so-called "right to work" state the Union can be a great help to
local musicians in resolving disputes and encouraging high standards
and respect towards our talented local professional
musicians.
