Director Reskin Stepping Down
Director Charles “Chas” Reskin will be resigning from the Executive Board at the end of the year. Chas has been a member of Local 655 for 60 years. He was originally elected Director in 2015. After serving one term, he was elected President, where he served from 2018 to 2023, and then he stepped down to become Director again.
Both his parents were musicians and life-long AFM members. Chas has performed in virtually every type of musical group and genre, from symphony orchestra to jazz band. He held the position of Principal Trumpet with the Naples Philharmonic in the 1980s, and was later a member of the Florida Grand Opera orchestra, the Ft. Lauderdale Symphony, the Miami City Ballet, and the Florida Sunshine Pops, among many others. He has toured nationally with the Broadway musical “Les Misèrables”, and internationally with KC and the Sunshine Band. He is currently a published composer with the European publisher, Editions BIM, with 9 works in their catalog so far. As a local board member he believes that even in a so-called “right to work” state the Union can be a great help to local musicians in resolving disputes and encouraging high standards and respect towards our talented local professional musicians. His presence on the Board will be missed but we’re sure Chas will continue to be involved in Local 655 activities. Thank you, Chas, for your many years of membership and service! Elections to fill his vacancy will take place at the January membership meeting.
