International Longshoremen’s Association workers on the east coast have returned to work after a three-day strike Wages will rise by $24 an hour over the next six years, to $63 an hour, a 61 percent increase. They will return to the bargaining table before January 15 to address port automation before finalizing a new contract.

Cleveland Institute of Music faculty have voted to be represented by AFM Local 4 in an election conducted by the NLRB. Faculty hope to improve communications with the administration over issues of concern, and hope to have more input in financial decisions.

The National Labor Relations Board has issued a complaint against Amazon. The NLRB states that Amazon is a joint employer of drivers, and that Amazon illegally terminated its contract with driver subcontractor BTS after its drivers voted to be represented by the Teamsters. The BTS drivers are the first Amazon drivers to unionize.

An administrative judge for the NLRB has ordered Starbucks to reopen two stores in Ithaca (NY) that were closed after workers voted for union representation. The judge ruled that the stores were closed for anti-union reasons and that Starbucks failed to negotiate in good faith with the workers’ representatives. Last year, 23 Starbucks stores were ordered by the NLRB to be reopened after they had been closed due to union organizing.

Hundreds of Amazon drivers in New York have joined the Teamsters. Drivers in Queens have signed authorization cards and have asked Amazon to recognize the Teamsters as their representatives. The drivers want consistent schedules, reasonable workloads, and adequately maintained trucks. Amazon drivers in San Francisco have also demanded recognition of their union.
