Florida orchestra CEO Ignatio Barron Viela has proposed construction of a home for the orchestra. The Center for Music Education and Innovation would house office space, classrooms, and rehearsal facilities for the orchestra. The 24,000-32,000 venue would be built next to the Mahaffey Theater and is estimated to cost $30 million.

YouTube held the largest share of viewers on televisions this past May. YouTube held 9.7 percent of viewers, more than the 7.6 percent held by second-place Netflix. YouTube has reported that their 150 million users watch more than one billion hours of content on TV screens each day. Not surprisingly, in the first quarter of 2024 YouTube’s ad revenue was up 21 percent, to $8.1 billion.

Inside Out 2 has become the first animated film to surpass $1 billion at the international box office. The top foreign markets were Mexico, Brazil, and the U.K.

Warner Bros. shares have fallen as much as 13 percent, to their lowest trading price since they merged with Discovery. The price drop occurred as the company wrote down the value of its TV networks and lost broadcast rights with the NBA to Disney, Comcast, and Amazon.

The Disney+ streaming service turned a profit one quarter early, beating Wall Street expectations. In their third quarter, the service had revenue of $6.4 billion and a profit of $47 million, up from a loss of a half billion dollars last year. Disney as a whole reported revenue of $23.2 billion and a profit of $3.1 billion.

The Sarasota Orchestra has named Giancarlo Guerrero as music director, succeeding Bramwell Tovey, who passed away in 2022. Guerrero, who is currently music director of the Nashville Symphony, will serve as music director designate for the 2024-25 season and will officially take the reigns for the 2025-26 season.

Musicians of the Indianapolis Symphony have ratified a one-year extension to their agreement. Wages will rise 3.84 percent.

North Carolina Symphony musicians have ratified a four-year agreement. Wages will rise 25.8 percent over the life of the agreement, catching up with inflation as well as providing additional wage increases. The initial raise in the fist year will be 6.76 percent.
