That Union Thing

IATSE has reached an agreement with the AMPTP.

Following the lead of actors, writers, and musicians, their new agreement offers protection from the use of artificial intelligence. It also includes pay raises of seven percent in the first year, four percent in the second, and 3.5 percent in the final year.

SAG-AFTRA has filed an unfair labor practice charge against Chicago Public Media over layoffs and buyouts at WBEZ. Staff size is a mandatory subject of bargaining, and the union accuses the NPR station of failing to provide information to the union as the station laid off 14 employees. Between layoffs and buyouts, WBEZ has reduced its workforce by five percent this year.

The Amazon Labor Union will now be affiliated with the Teamsters. The two-year old grassroots organization will become part of the 1.3 million member Teamsters. The Teamsters already have an Amazon Division, so the combined forces may better be able to negotiate contracts and organize new worksites at Amazon.
