That Union Thing

Musicians sidelining and recording for the Apple TV+ show Severance are now working under an AFM contract through the New York Local 802.

The new agreement will secure fair wages and protections for the musicians.

Disneyland character cast members will now be represented by Actors Equity. The actors overwhelmingly voted in favor of union representation by a margin of nearly five to one. Most of the other workers at Disneyland, as well as the cast members at Disneyland, are already represented by unions. The top priority of the cast members was to secure a safer and healthier working environment.

Mercedes workers in Alabama voted against being represented by the UAW. While the campaign made significant progress, it could not overcome the anti-union messaging from the company and politicians such as Governor Ivey. The Alabama legislature went so far as to pass laws revoking economic incentives for companies that voluntarily recognize unions. The final straw for the campaign was the company firing the CEO and promising that things would improve under the new CEO.

A NLRB Administrative Law Judge has ruled that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy violated federal law by making public threats to employees. Jassey made comments that stated if employees selected a union, they would become less empowered and would find it harder to get things done.
