Last Month at the Local

MPTF has just announced that Local 655 has a grant allocation of over $12,000 for the current year.

If you have ideas for concerts that are free and open to the public, please let us know! Since the grants have been underutilized in the past few years, President Hawley and Secretary-Treasurer Apana met with Phillip Dunlap of the Broward Arts Council last month to discuss a partnership to help spend the funds. The hardest part for musicians is logistics, production, and venues, so we are hoping they can help with those details and musicians can concentrate on performing.

Delegates are also preparing to attend regional conferences in the next two months. President Hawley and Secretary-Treasurer Apana will be attending the AFM Southern Conference of Locals meeting in June, and Palm Beach Opera Orchestra member Laura Winters will be attending the Regional Orchestra Players Association meeting in July. These are great opportunities to see what is happening elsewhere in the country and “compare notes.” The more we know about our industry, the better prepared we are to ask for what we are worth.
